Horseback RidingWho would have thought that you could horseback ride right here in Queens?  Despite all of the honking horns and crazy pedestrian traffic, we really do have some terrific, yet hidden gems of outdoor activities in our borough.  One of them is located deep in the heart of Forest Hills, where it’s only appropriate that the horses have the ‘hills of the forest’ to roam around and bask in the beauty of this terrific neighborhood.

It couldn’t be better timing as well…with the possibility of the highly-anticipated Queens High Line becoming more of a reality, wouldn’t this be a great way to start your day?  Hop on a horse, peruse the neighborhood and end it with a picnic on the High Line.  Hopeful dreams may just turn into a potential reality…sounds like a great plan for the future of Queens!

At Lynne’s Riding School, you will learn the techniques needed to feel strong and confident on a horse, even if you’re just a beginner.  They offer riding lessons, boarding and box stalls if you own your very own horse, birthday parties and individual pony rides for the kids…at only $10 a ride.  When you have a little more experience under your belt, you will be able to take a horse-driven ride through the restored Forest Park Bridle Paths (over four miles of them) once you’ve learned to control the horse and build strength and comfort in the saddle.  You’ll truly enjoy it even if you’re only a beginner and may just learn some extras if you’re more of an advanced rider.  It’s really awesome to watch the horses roam through the local streets on your way to the park.  The best part?  You won’t have to venture out of Queens…what a treat!

Also, feel free to check out Jamaica Bay Riding Academy and Kensington Stables for some really great horseback riding also.  They are both located in Brooklyn, but they are definitely close by and only a quick ride away!
