What inspired you to begin your business?
I wanted something fun and financially rewarding besides being a mom of 3 beautiful children! I adored being a mom but started thinking about a better balance and something for “me”!! Then my friends introduced me to Stella & Dot having been to a trunk show in California!

How difficult was it to get started in the business?
I had an incredible response from family and friends when I started my job as a stylist. Everyone loved the jewelry and for those looking for work – they loved the opportunity to have a job that was so fun, flexible and lucrative. It has been so rewarding!! I’ve had incredible sales and built a booming nationwide team that has now even expanded to London, Germany and Puerto Rico!

Can you describe your business?
My site is: www.stelladot.com/zandra – Stella and Dot, an Inc. 500 Fastest-Growing Company, is a San Francisco based social selling company that creates flexible entrepreneurial opportunities for women. Our boutique-style jewelry and accessories line is available exclusively through in-home Trunk Shows by Independent Stylists and online. Our one of a kind collections are designed by celebrated New York designers and featured in Gossip Girl, In Style and Lucky Magazine as well as on the wrists and necklines of today’s hottest celebrities. The Today Show, Wall Street Journal and The New York Times have praised Stella & Dot for our innovative social shopping concept which brings together the best of ecommerce, social media, personal service and passionate earning to create the ultimate home based business for today’s modern woman.

What has been your biggest challenge to overcome?
At first it was introducing women to what Stella & Dot was / is!! There was a bit of a negative stigma when it came to Direct Selling companies so I had to make sure ladies understood “S&D was different”! No long presentations, product was affordable and no pressure to buy at our fun trunk shows. Once S&D was understood and we became “all the buzz” by the fashion & Business press – it was easier since ladies truly love the product and brand.

What advice would you give other moms who are looking to begin their own business?
If you’re looking to work from home, be with your kids, still have time with your husband but have a fun, flexible and lucrative job that can be done on YOUR Terms part time or full time – this is the place for you. S&D is an incredibly empowering company and a support system I had no idea was out there. Find something that makes you happy as you’ll be that much more successful at it!

What ideas are you planning to bring into your business this year? What’s next for you?
I plan to start traveling internationally (to the UK) to train my team that has now expanded internationally. This will be new for me! And now with Stella & Dot encompassing more than just jewelry – we have wallets, scarves and candles – I am starting to expand my thoughts on who should host shows and where S&D should be seen due to our expanding brand! It’s all so very exciting. Our company is still so small and there is a tremendous amount of growth potential!!

How do you balance running a business with your kids’ schedule?
I try to get as much work done when my children are in school and when they were younger I’d get a bit of babysitting to give me a break and to have “blocks” of time to work on my business. I also prefer to do my work at night once they’re in bed over channel surfing :)

What role do your children/ family play in your business products?
My husband has been my #1 supporter and has truly helped me get to where I’m at – always helping with the children on nights I have to be out etc. Having a supportive husband has been incredible!

Betcha didn’t know… That Stella & Dot still has only touched 1% of Americans. We’re tiny and need more stylists out there to help grow our booming brand. I’d LOVE to have ladies join my team!! I have ladies all over the country on my team – who else wants to jump in with me??

Right now I am loving that…  I can sell S&D and a portion of my commissions can be donated to the S&D Foundation to help renovate a school in the Bronx or I can donate to my charity of choice – the latest being “Sandy Relief – Red Cross”!

My favorite Mommy Trick is… Syncing my calendar with my husband and color coding each of my kids a different color, my work so our calendar shows exactly who’s doing what and I don’t have to update my husband – he knows my schedule at all times and knows where he needs to be a vice versus!

I can’t live without… The Pegasus necklace from Stella & Dot, my sweet husband, 3 children and…. chapstick!! :)
